My Statement on the Health Care Debate:
Alot of people have asked me my opinion of the health care debate and I told them I would comment in the future. That time is now. This will be short and sweet because I don't feel like we need to draw it out any further. The reform bill has already done that for us. My statement:
If our government, in its infinite wisdom, decides that out of the abundance and love of it's heart it wants to bless the American people by offering them the gift of health care, then by all means, offer away. But it should come with the same stipulations as any other gift:
- It should cost me nothing
- I should be able to refuse it
The same way that I don't borrow YOUR credit card to go buy YOU a gift, the government should not be able to purchase ME health care with MY own money. If they can figure out a way to pay for it that doesn't involve taxing me more, then I welcome the offer. I will still likely refuse, but its an appreciated gesture. Should we help the poor and down-trodden? Absolutely. And Mr. Government, if that is your desire, then out of your own pocket, please feel free to do so. I have worked hard for my money, and you have already decided time and time again that you deserve my money more than I do. So please, do me a favor and stop thinking for me. I'm quite good at it on my own.
